The fifth-generation BMW X5 (G65) continues the story of BMW’s original Sports Activity Vehicle, a model that helped establish the luxury SUV segment when the first generation launched in 1999.

The new X5 represents a major step forward, combining the traditional X5 formula of luxury, practicality, and driving dynamics with technologies introduced through BMW’s Neue Klasse platform. It is the first BMW model to be offered with five different powertrain types, including petrol and diesel engines with 48V mild-hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid variants, the fully electric BMW iX5, and the upcoming BMW iX5 Hydrogen.

Design-wise, the G65 X5 adopts BMW’s latest styling language, featuring a more upright front end, vertically oriented kidney grilles, new double-X lighting signatures, and a cleaner, more monolithic appearance. Despite the modern Neue Klasse influences, the proportions remain recognizably X5, maintaining the model’s balance between presence and practicality.

The interior introduces a significant technological update with BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive system, including the wide BMW Panoramic Vision display, redesigned operating system, and a more digital-focused user experience. At the same time, BMW has placed greater emphasis on premium materials, with new decorative finishes such as optional slate surfaces adding a more natural and luxurious atmosphere.

The new X5 is produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the United States, where the X5 has been built since its introduction in 1999. Production of the fifth generation starts in 2026, with the first petrol and diesel variants arriving before the plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions follow.

For its exterior palette, the G65 X5 introduces several new colors including Pine Grey Metallic, which serves as one of the communication colors for the new generation. The expanded range continues BMW’s move towards more sophisticated metallic tones while retaining traditional choices alongside more expressive finishes.
